Alzheimer's Society Comment On Research Into Impact Of Vitamin D On Brain Performance
A study of 3,133 men from a variety of test centres across Europe has shown that lower 25 (OH) D levels (vitamin D levels) were associated with poorer brain performance (in middle aged and older men). The study looked at a number of cognitive function tests with only one being linked to vitamin D statistically. The study did not look at cognitive function in women.

Medtronic Clinical Trial Evaluating The Industry's First Cryoballoon Technology Designed For Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Completes Follow Up
Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) announced completion of a 12-month follow up in the STOP-AF (Sustained Treatment of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation) clinical trial evaluating the first cryoballoon catheter technology designed to treat paroxysmal atrial fibrillation - the Medtronic Arctic Front® CryoAblation Catheter System. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia affecting more than 3 million Americans and 7 million people worldwide.1 After the study data are analyzed and filed with regulatory authorities, the results will be shared at an upcoming medical meeting. The system is approved for use in Europe, Australia and Hong Kong and is under investigational use in the United States.

Obama Says Lawmakers Should Not Become Sidetracked By Abortion Debate In Health Reform

In an interview with CBS" "Evening News" on Tuesday, President Obama said that lawmakers should "not get distracted by the abortion debate" as they weigh health reform legislation. When asked by "Evening News" anchor Katie Couric if he would "favor a government option that would cover abortions," Obama replied that what he thinks is "important, at this stage, is not trying to micro-manage what benefits are covered." He added that his "main focus is making sure that people have the options of high-quality care at the lowest possible price." Obama also said, "As you know, I"m pro-choice. But I think we also have the tradition of, in this town, historically, of not financing abortions as part of government-funded health care." He continued that "[r]ather than wade into that issue at this point, I think it"s appropriate for us to figure out how to just deliver on the cost savings, and not get distracted by the abortion debate at this station" (Couric, "Evening News," CBS, 7/21).
